Hello my name is Sacha and I am talking to you from Malvern House in Brighton, welcome to your one minute English lesson. Now, if someone said to you “hey you’re as cool as a cucumber”, what do they mean? “As cool as a cucumber”, well they mean you are very calm, relaxed and you have no worries, so for example “we’ve got our English exams today, I’m really nervous, but my friend, she’s as cool as a cucumber”. So my friend, she’s not worried about her exams at all. So where do you think this idiom came from? Well apparently when it is really hot outside and you cut into a cucumber, the inside of that cucumber is 20 degrees cooler, so “as cool as a cucumber”. Can you remember a time that you were as cool as a cucumber? If you can, write in the comments box below. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye from Malvern House in Brighton.
