Modern Teacher course

This interactive, informative and practical course is suitable both for English language teachers and those who use English as the language of delivery in other subjects.

Outcomes

Different aspects of teaching are explored with an emphasis on building effective communication in classes. In particular you will:

1. Analyse how students learn and how to motivate and
   maintain interest during lessons.
2. Critically reflect on your own teaching style and understand alternative teaching styles.
3. Discuss classroom management challenges and solutions e.g. differences in levels.
4. Think about how to exploit classroom materials, getting the most out of textbooks for different situations

Content

Choosing from the modular content on the course the group will explore:

1. Modern teaching approaches, for example project and task-based learning, communicative and student-centred learning.
2. Classroom management strategies, for example for emergent language, mistakes and feedback
3. Teaching techniques to effectively develop students’ skills and language systems knowledge.
4. Materials development – how to best take advantage of textbooks, source other published material and create self-made materials
