Outcomes
Different aspects of teaching are explored with an emphasis on building effective inter-disciplinary teaching in classes. In particular you will:
- Analyse how children learn and how to motivate and maintain
their interest during lessons - Critically reflect on your own teaching style and understand alternative teaching styles
- Discuss classroom management challenges and solutions for different age groups
- Think about how to create activities and longer schemes of work that allow for the effective acquisition of new language
Content
Choosing from the modular content on the course the group will explore:
- Where communicative language teaching and teaching young learner methodologies overlap, for example phonics and storytelling
- Classroom management strategies, for example supporting students with special educational needs
- Teaching techniques to effectively develop students’ skills and language systems knowledge whilst those skills are still developing in their own languages
- How content from English speaking cultures can enrich children’s learning experiences
